Welcome to Favourite Aspull Recipes, tried and trusted recipes contributed by families in Aspull so that everyone can have a go and enjoy them too. This book has been created by the All in Good Taste community group with support from the National Lottery Community Fund as part of their 2023 Good to Grow project. Among the recipes are the food memories of John Burns and Rita (nee) Whittle who grew up in Aspull in the 1930-50s when times were hard and food was scarce. Perhaps there are lessons we can learn from a time when food was local and didnÕt travel thousands of miles, when it was bought directly from producers and there was no such thing as disposable packaging or processed foods. Perhaps these producers of good quality local food still exist if we seek them out, or maybe we could grow more natural, seasonal produce ourselves. There are many other benefits of cooking; it is a social activity families can do together and there is a lot of fun and satisfaction to be had in preparing a delicious family meal from scratch. Throughout the year, All in Good Taste and the Aspull Gardening Group have been tending spaces like the Incredible Edible plot on Haigh Road so that there is a source of free fruit and vegetables for all residents (just help yourself) and we have been enjoying a tasty breakfast at the One House to set us up for the day!
